Kenyan civil society coalition calls for strong African and Ambitious plastic treaty ahead of INC-5.2

As we reflect on 2024, we are proud to share our progress in advancing a just and sustainable society free from toxic chemicals. This year, CEJAD significantly scaled up efforts to protect communities from the harms caused by chemicals and waste.

The report "POPs in Eggs from Two Sites in Kenya" investigates contamination near two medical waste incinerators in Kenya. Conducted by CEJAD, Arnika, and IPEN, the study examines the presence of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in eggs collected from these areas. POPs, including dioxins, PCBs, PFASs and brominated flame retardants, pose serious health risks due to their bioaccumulative and toxic nature. The findings highlight high levels of contamination, raising concerns about public health and environmental safety.

 A report on the study conducted by CEJAD IPEN and ARNIKA, assessing the presence of harmful chemicals in children's toys sold in Kenya. The study found significant levels of toxic substances like phthalates, chlorinated paraffins, and UV stabilizers in PVC toys, chemicals linked to serious health risks, especially for children.
